At Lumière Shades, the finished piece is only part of the story. Behind our collection is our Bali studio, where we design, develop and produce our lighting in-house. It is what allows us to work beyond a fixed collection adapting scale, proportion and finish, developing bespoke pieces, and producing lighting specifically for an interior.
For more than seven years, we have worked with interior designers, architects and hospitality studios on projects around the world, from individual custom pieces to larger quantities specified across restaurants, hotels and residential spaces.
Beyond the Collection: Our collection is often the starting point.
An existing Lumière design might be right for a project, but the scale needs to change. A pendant may need a longer drop, a different proportion or a particular finish. A designer may be working with an unusual ceiling height, a large volume of space, or a scheme requiring a series of pieces to work together and sometimes, the right piece doesn’t exist yet. Having our production in-house gives us the flexibility to respond to the space, rather than asking the space to accommodate the product.
From Brief to Production: Custom work begins with understanding the project.
We look at the space, dimensions, quantities and installation requirements, alongside the aesthetic direction of the interior. From there, we adapt an existing design or develop something specific to the project.
Depending on the brief, this can include custom dimensions and proportions, material or colour variations, cord lengths and electrical requirements through to fully bespoke designs.
Where required, we develop samples before moving into production.
Our team stays closely involved throughout from design and sampling through to production and finishing which is what allows us to hold the detail and consistency that matter most once a piece is being made in quantity.
Made for Projects: Lighting for a hospitality or commercial interior carries a different set of considerations to lighting a single room.
Scale needs to work architecturally. Multiple pieces need to feel consistent. Installation requirements need to be considered early. Production timelines and freight need to be part of the conversation from the start.
These practical considerations are as much a part of our studio’s work as the design itself.

A More Personal Way of Making : Our approach to custom lighting is deliberately collaborative.
We like working with designers who have a clear point of view, and helping translate that vision into something that can actually be made.
It might begin with a sketch, an existing Lumière piece, a reference image, or simply a conversation about what the space needs. From there, we work through the details together.
The result is lighting that feels considered within the wider interior rather than something chosen at the end, simply to fill a space.
